I know her tank looks a little sad right now.

i just moved her into this new tank recently, and while we were sleeping, she got pinned in between the filter and the wall of the tank 🙁 i woke up and noticed and moved the filter to free her, and put aqua sponge in that space so it won't happen again.

She was very lethargic after this, regaining her strength i'm sure.. I took some of the plants out as she was struggling to swim and move around.

i did contact a vet and she is totally back to normal now thank god. she's my bb i want her to have the happiest healthiest life.

My question is, would she like if there were a ton more plants? or prefer the room to swim around?

She kind of paces back and forth all day and i'm worried she is bored or something's wrong (and the water is fine i've tested it frequently)

any advise on giving my betta the best possible life would be GREATLY appreciated!

(is anyone else's Betta scared of the dark like mine?)

bettas naturally live in very dense aquatic vegetation, so the more jungle- like it is the more they love it! i would add some driftwood near the back and attach two or even three anubias to it, she will also use the leaves as hammocks to rest on 🙂 som swimming space is needed yes but they prefer swimming in between plants anyway and she will feel a lot safer and comfortable 🙂 if you can i would also add a black background, you can eg get some black paper/ black craft paper and tape it to the outside of the back wall of the tank, she won’t be exposed on all four sides anymore and bettas love darker surroundings (it’s why they prefer black substrate) but i would focus on the plants mainly if you were to choose only one thing 🙂

and as a sidenote she might pace because of the things i said, bettas can feel a tad agitated in environments with not enough cover where they feel exposed, not to say she is stressed because she looks healthy but she will definitely be happier with more cover

id put some plants like Hornwort (fast growing and fills up space quickly + bettas like resting on them and can hide easily) all along in the back and leave some space at the front leaving her some space in the front for swimming, my betta has his tank setup like this and loves both parts

Idk if she’s scared of the dark, she just maybe feels too exposed. Definitely more plants and hiding places for her. This will make her so much more comfortable. Make sure to limit the light to only 6-8 hours a day, it’ll decrease algae growth and bettas get stressed from too much light. Is this a 5 gallon? You should be fine but for future reference a 10 may be better since females tend to have shorter fins and zip around more. Mainly, you need more plant coverage. Try some Asian water ferns and java ferns. They got big bushy leaves. That thick stemmed one, I’m not sure what it is, I might be wrong but don’t the leaves have to be out of water or it will die? Definitely look into more java ferns. They grow semi fast and offer good coverage

Look into floating plants like dwarf water lettuce. Provides shade for your fish, soaks up nutrients pretty well and the long roots fill in empty space pretty well.

Only other thing is it looks like you have lucky bamboo in there. I would just keep an eye on it because I think it’s only supposed to have its roots in the water and not the whole plant. If it starts looking bad maybe get it above the water line

  6. Is this like a 2.5g? Looks like an aqueon 2.5 g bowfront, if that’s the case she is just bored due to the too small of a tank. Probably why they got stuck too, nothing to explore in a small tank and found themselves there.
