So he’s been in for about 3 hours first hour he was zipping around exploring the caves plants logs moss balls behind the wood like everywhere I came back 2 hours later and now he’s staying at the surface constantly going for air, is it possibly he tired himself out? Filter flow is extremely low parameters are 0 ammonia 0 nitrite 20-25 nitrate ph is 6.8 I’ve never moved a fish from a. Small tank to a big one so let me know please, it has been cycled for 2 days

Stress, new water parameters, a new home, I think he’s just curious. It took my fish around 3 days to settle in

Cycling for 2 days isn’t nearly long enough for the tank to really develop the bacteria needed to effectively break down ammonia and nitrites. I’d put him back in his original tank for another few weeks while the new tank gets established.

With that, the tank is absolutely gorgeous though! Great job on the tank! Just give it a bit more time and your betta will be SOOOOO much happier.

One thing I did by mistake when I first set up my tank that resulted in similar behaviour was to accidentally overdose with API Aqua essential. The result being it lowered the oxygen levels in the water which tends to display in fish hovering around the surface gasping for air.

I’m sure that’s not the case with yours but with just double checking you got your water conditioner dosage right.
