Bought 15 emerald eye rasbora for my 400L about a month ago, and two of them were a little bigger than the others.

Today I was sitting watching feeding time, and noticed the two big ones don't school with the others and are actually noticeably different colours. Are they actually emerald eyes?? Does anyone who knows more about rasbora know if they're a different species?

First pic: emerald eye rasbora from the internet
Second pic: my emeralds, with the characteristic black dot on dorsal fin
Third pic: Suspect #1, totally spotless silver
Fourth pic: Susoect #2, black spots on dorsal AND tail fins, with orangey yellow as well

  1. I don’t know this species well (so I’m unhelpfully replying), but I bought a school of M. kubotai and have the same issue, two of them are smaller and don’t school, and have slightly different markings.I’ve asked a lot of people and no can offer an alternative and the shop said they weren’t wild caught so maybe just some weird genetics. Like yours, the shape is very similar, and the differences are hard to spot at first. Do you know if yours are wild caught? That could suggest they are a similar subspecies. Otherwise, maybe rasboras can have confusing genetics.
