Betta Fish: Is this a good heater for a betta? + more questions
Am I supposed to keep a heater on 24/7 like a filter? Is this one safe?

If you have a 10 or 20 gallon tank it’s just fine! Yes it runs 24/7. Have fun! Make sure to test that water if your tank isn’t cycled fully yet

Yes heaters stay on 24/7. Preset heaters are either a hit or miss. I personally do not recommend preset heaters. Usually they say they heat to a certain temp but you check your thermometer and its definitely colder than its supposed to be. I have one one pre set heater of my 6 tanks and it will be replaced next paycheck with a different one I can adjust. Only reason I have it is because it came with the tank. Just make sure you get a thermometer (I prefer digital ones) and keep an eye daily when you feed the temperature of the tank.

Unplug your heater any time you are about to take it out of the water. Please do not leave it running and plugged in unless it is submerged under water. How big is your tank?

I would get this on Amazon. You can adjust the temparure to reach 80 degrees. Preset heaters for a betta, it doesn’t stay 78 degrees. It’s normally colder. I live in cold weather half a year. The digital one is perfect.
I have the same one in my 5-gallon tank, and it works great. The LED lights up RED when it’s active and GREEN when it reaches temperature.
I went with a higher wattage because my home gets pretty cold (~65°F). The 15W Aqueon I had before just couldn’t keep up. It’s generally safer to go up in wattage if you have a colder home.
Tip: Treat the gallon ratings on heaters as general guides. You have to consider how cold the room is. If the difference between your actual room temp and your target tank temp is more than 9°F, I would definitely go up in wattage.
