This is Rhubarb and he is a very healthy betta. He lives in a 5 gal tank and I have a lot of fun giving him different enrichment. When I first got him, he would flair out more with both sides. Shortly after, he started doing it more on one side. Sometimes he will use both when I give him mirror enrichment time. He’s been like this for months and I don’t know why, but he has not been acting as if he were in pain. I wonder if more mirror time for flairing will help him stretch out more? Does anyone else’s betta do this?

Do his gills look even when he isn’t flared?
my betta would mainly flare on both sides, but every now and again he would do a half flare on one side. he was perfectly healthy until he got dropsy, but then again, he never did an entire flare on one side like yours is. i would say try doing more research online, and keep a close eye on him, but if he’s healthy, then it isn’t a massive deal.
