He was so sweet and adorable and my other fish are doing fantastic. I just did a full routine water test and change before even finding his body hidden behind all the plants. Everything looked normal and nitrates were right around 5-10 ppm. He ate sinking pellets, quite a variety, mostly ones labeled for catfish, but I have never directly fed him and monitored what he ate. He was lively doing pleco things just yesterday. I am at such a loss. And I just brought home a dwarf pleco this morning (and he's in quarantine).. I am utterly discouraged at the moment but I need to figure this out and get it right for the new baby pleco. I have not introduced any new fish or plants in months. He lived with two young angelfish, tetras and various other small bottom feeders as well.
All of that said, I was never able to get a 100% ID on this guy and he was about 5 inches long I think. He stopped growing months ago, though I expected him to get big and need a new home eventually. But he stayed pretty small. Someone gave me their 55 gallon tank a couple years ago and he came with it. I have no idea how old he was. His name was Butler and he was our favorite fish out of the bunch, goofy little guy. Please be kind but if you have any ideas or advice I need to hear it.

So sorry for your loss. I love the pleco at my family’s tank so much because they are the bestest little guys.
I think this is a common sailfin pleco which I love even if they can get big. Algae wafers and blanched zucchini is a favorite for my guy. Depending on your catfish wafers I wonder if they had too much protein and not enough veggies.
Maybe someone else has some ideas?

i recently killed my baby arowana. gave my tank a heavy water change without considering how sensitive babies are. still not over it. now i cant find my watch. doesnt seem like much but with everything else going on i broke down and cried for like ten minutes straight. hope you feel better op
