I’m getting a betta being rehomed from Facebook. The fish is in no heater no filter tank with either fin tear or fin rot.
Currently I have a fully cycled 10 gallon but I have a high flow filter in it and I’m afraid that it’s too dangerous for a betta. And my understanding is that I have to run a sponge filter alongside the high flow filter for a while to not break the cycle.
I also have a planted 2.5 gallon with pest snails (the tank has a low flow filter) that might be able to act like a hospital tank. I’ll test the water in a bit to see.
What’s the best course of action now? Which tank should I keep the betta right now? And does he have fin tear or rot?
Attached is the photo of him. Thank you in advance.

buy a coarse sponge and tie it to/shove it into the filter outflow. try and put plants in front of it to break the current.
2.5 gallon can work temporarily while you get the filter flow set on the 10g
Use the cycled tank temporarily. Issues like this resolve themselves with proper water conditions and diet. Put a pre filter on your filter intake and shove some extra media in the basket if you can’t adjust the flow. As for the sponge filter, you don’t have to run both. One is sufficient.
