you’re doing amazing omg most people would just put him in a cup. please buy some chlorine remover and tank start ups you can get it from amazon or local fish store. go on youtube and watch videos!!!! all the videos on there are super informative about proper care and it’s where i learnt everything. the more plants the better but what you’ve got is okay for now!

  3. This is a great start to betta keeping! It sucks this was thrust upon you but you’re honestly doing much better than most beginners imo. Because this was unexpected for you I recommend looking into a “fish-in cycle”. You’ll need to get a liquid test kit because you wanted to make sure the ammonia doesn’t spike and you’ll need to get a gravel vacuum for frequent water changes the first few weeks. I also highly recommend getting Seachem Prime. It’s a water conditioner that makes tap water safe for fish and if you follow the directions on the back, it can temporarily protect your betta from the effects of ammonia and nitrite. 77°F is also a fine temp for a betta but it’s always good to have a heater on hand for colder days. I would recommend if it gets below 76°F. As for a filter look into sponge filters. They’re pretty cheap and just require an external pump. It’s easy to make it low flow as bettas don’t like a lot of current.

  4. Fish in cycle is totally doable for a betta, especially under these circumstances. I’d recommend looking up some fish in cycle videos on YouTube!

  5. You can use tap water but you need to get something called water conditioner. Water straight from the tap can kill fish due to chlorine and chloramines. Most people suggest Seachem Prime since it’s concentrated and will last forever. However, any water conditioner will do really. You don’t need a special betta conditioner though! It’s a scam.
