Hi. I have a small fish tank that used to house a betta with red cherry shrimp and a few nerite snails. The betta and all the other fish that followed had since died, so now this is solely a shrimp and nerite snail tank. I added 3 more shrimp (blue dream?), one of which may have died when I was trimming the plants. Anyway, it has been 2 months now and the only time I put any kind food in my tank was when I had fish in it.
I have not put in any kind of food in my tank since I don't have sinking feed but my shrimp look okay and one of them is even currently gravid.

Should I buy sinking fish food for my current tank inhabitants? Or can they just mooch off in their tank?

If you put in a sinking pellet the council will gather. You can also use bacterae to give them more biofilm to graze, just be very very sparing with it.

  2. If it’s working don’t mess with it.  The fact that you have a shrimp with eggs tells me that the shrimp think there is enough food to sustain a larger population.  The only reason I would feed would be if you want to increase and sustain your shrimp population drastically.
