This is Eurydice
Hi there. This is Eurydice(maybe if she’s a girl?). This was not my choice and she is here. Seems ok. I know the tank if very bare and I am now learning it should have been cycled. She was given to my husband as a “gift.” Which default means it is now mine. Trying to do right here. We have a 10 gal tank, a heater, and a filter. The water is conditioned. I’m reading I will have to cycle it with her in.
Also… Can anyone tell if this is a male or female? Does she look ok? Don’t want the poor thing to suffer either.

I realize this post is borderline illiterate. New mom, postpartum, also now a fish mom 😆
Congrats on getting a betta! May seem surprising I know but great job on learning about the cycling, Ensure you have live plants, and ample hiding spots, a 10g is amazing keep the filter low flow, and the heater about 76-80 degrees, watch for stress and fin rot, keep in mind that bettas are aggressive so probably no tank mates! (Maybe shrimp if your betta is chill and your ready for losses)

this is my own 10g tank (currently housing pest snails, black rose shrimp, and a green eyed-hulk male plakat betta) with live plants (Java fern wisteria, Java moss, Anubias, Elodea, and that lily pad looking plant in the front with Pearl weed, all these plants are beginner friendly and grow well and fast, and don’t need co2) I would ensure the tank set up has enough hiding spots, soft corners so the betta won’t scratch the fins on it, It seems you have a female koi betta by the spots and colors, if you start seeing larger fins and a plakat fin you possibly could have a male plakat! Tips: Ensure your betta is well fed—Ensure hiding spots and live plant coverage—A large enough tank with a filter and heater—soft areas—enrichment (hoops, ect)—And just have fun, bettas are good little companions to watch swim around and you have a ecosystem in your room/house! Stress indicators: Clamped fins—Loss appetite—Dull colors—Erratic swimming—Glass surfing—ect. Have fun, good luck! And hopefully your betta will live a long happy life in your care (they typically live for 2-4 years or 5 with good care). EDIT: typically she looks okay, but make sure to add more hiding spots and live plants, not forcing, just telling that she will be happier, you have a female most likely, but maybe a plakat male, just watch the fin size and keep a watch for sickness.
You’re doing great! Eurydice is a great name. Agree on getting some easy care plants – bettas love floaters and big broad leaf plants like anubias and amazon sword. From my (limited) experience, bettas run the gamut from sweet friendly teddy bears (my roommate’s dragon scale male in a 28 gallon community tank w corys and shrimp) to absolute hellspawn terrorists (my plakat koi male alone in his 13 gallon kingdom) who like to push snails off of rocks. Low light early morning pic of said hellspawn Tax Evasion for some tank inspo for ya. Congrats on becoming a mom twice! 😊 I hope they both give you a fun respite from the world.

People who gift other people pets are quite honestly the worst. I don’t care if it was your spouse, dying family member or new bestie. People need to understand that pets are a commitment and NO ONE should make that decision for you besides YOURSELF.
Everyones given you great advice and heres a quick care guide instead of duckweed id do red root floaters or salvinia instead for floating plants. Id also reccomend moving them from the window it can mess with tank temps and the sunlight can cause an algae bloom.
