MEET SKITTLES!! Took a few people's advice on my last post about getting the dragon scale koi betta from my local mom and pop shop and putting him in a temporary set up for my main tank to cycle.
I had him on hold for a day and when I went to pick him up, he honestly looked a bit worse. It didn't look like they ever cleaned his dirty cup and he barely moved. When I first spotted him, he seemed more active but when I picked him up he looked so depressed. A lot of people felt, even though I didn't have a set up for him yet, that a temporary set up is way better than the cup life. I was honestly debating on keeping him on hold so my tank could run for at least a few days but he looked like he was just getting worse fast. One of the employees that I talk to all the time asked me if I had everything ready for him. I explained I was going to give him a small temporary space and the employee got a bit upset with me saying they can't live in a small environment, meanwhile he's literally being kept in a small glass cup. He gave me a speech about how they have brains and feelings and thats animal cruelty and etc but what they are doing is basically what he's telling me not to do. They we're still fine with selling him to me since I've been going to them for a long time for different fish and both me and my dad have been practicing our fish hobby for years.
I ended up putting skittles in a small temporary tank with a heater while my main tank starts to cycle and clear up. The minute I did that it was like he came back to life, he was active, interested in his environment and ate some brine shrimp. He was also laying himself ontop of the heater. I'm still confused on his bent top fin though, I can't tell if that's what it's supposed to look like on that type of betta or it's just from stress.
Either way I honestly agree with the comments saying anything else is better than being in a death cup and getting him out of it as fast as possible is better.

He’s beautiful! Love his colors! You’re doing a great job for the time being. That worker should’ve been more understanding. Cause yeah this temporary tank is better than that little cup he was in.
The only thing I’d say is that SpongeBob house isn’t the best thing for him to hide in. The top of it may rip his fins. When he’s in his actual tank I’d suggest a floating betta log or a betta cave you can find them both on amazon!
Omg skittles is so pretty! I’m so glad you were able to save him from that cup and I honestly can’t wait to see his colours pop even more under the light of his new home xx
