I toss a handful of baby ramshorns in her tank once a week as I remove them from my community tank. She eats the tiniest ones whole but clearly has been snacking on ones bigger than her mouth. How does she do it? I've seen her hunt the snail, catch it, and then thrash it around for a bit before swallowing something, but how is she actually able to get the snail "meat" out of the shell while leaving the shell intact?
Every now and then she'll kill a bigger one without being able to get to all the snail meat, and I have to pull those shells out before they foul the water. Otherwise I just let the shells lay where they fall like her own personal bone temple.

Although much different fish, I love watching my pea puffers hunt snails. They wait for the snail to be out a bit, then grab, thrash, and pull. I imagine a betta can kind of pull that move off, too. You should see my puffers snail graveyard…oh boy, it’s a lot!
That’s awesome!! My daughter’s betta is so lazy, I practically have to chew his food for him. SMH I love this for you!! 😂😂
I suspect ours is doing this too. Which may not bode well for the community tank she’s Supposed to end up in as there are 3 larger snails in it.
