Context to the photo: roughly a half meter of what feels like nylon, then roughly 10cm of a thick something that doesn’t spool properly, then my braid starts.
Hey all, fairly new to fishing, just bought a bait caster and has it spoiled up at the shop with 10lb braid, when I got home I noticed this, never seen it before, granted I’ve never used braid before so this could be standard. Is this something I’m meant to have cut off? Somewhat would it looks like it could be is leader for a rig but again I have no idea what I’m looking at, my issue is the thick 10cm part kinda doesn’t spool properly and is annoying.

Is more like 2 meters of what feels like nylon going off the right side there*
could be a protective sheild on the leader for protextion against abrasion thats just my take tho
