There are TWO bettas in this. A comment was stating how bettas need 5 gallons minimum and all the replies were either “no one cares.” “Not everyone can afford tht.” THEN DONT GET A BETTA😭 anyways this is me ranting but the point of this post is- it is inevitable. Eventually I think all betta or fish lovers- ppl who are in the hobby with come across this sort of thing. And ppl will still get defensive- when told they are abusing fish- how do you guys handle it? What’s a good- respectful way to say “wtf do you own a fish.” And what are methods you guys have used to approach this kind of thing.

So sad
that’s really sad. we have 2 5 gallons 1 each for our 2 bettas and we are friggin unhappy and saving up for bigger tanks.
I’ve learned that sadly all you can do is report it, get as many people as you can to also report and wait for it to be removed. One person reporting isn’t enough, unfortunately it has to be a lot of reports for it to be removed.
You can’t make some people care. Some people are determined to do wrong no matter what it means; because it gets them more clicks, more comments, more engagement. It’s engagement bait; it’s designed to make the masses mad so they comment, which pushes the content out to more people, which gets them new followers, which translates into money for these people. That’s all this is. It’s gross, it’s sad, it’s horrifying, social media platforms need to take animal abuse and neglect more serious but at the moment, outrage generates money for these platforms so they have no reason or incentive to take care of it. But continuing to speak up, continuing to report it and getting others to report it will begin the wheels of change moving.
Imagine the breeders who mass produce them here in Asia. Each male is stored in a jar which isn’t even a half gallon until they are sold to local fish stores where they’ll spend most of their life in a plastic cup. Then someone buys them as an ornament in a cramped up tank/bowl. This species is underrated one of the most abused animal.
