Anyone else’s wood got mould on it? Had it submerged for about a week and come home to find it’s got a weird film over it. No fish in tank plates just holding it down

I’ve just started with my first ever tank. I started cycling about 8 days ago and the water has been quite cloudy after about day 3.

I noticed a bit of my wood has a similar mould/bacteria on it.

I’ve only just started noticing nitrites and nitrates, so I’m assuming it’s harmless. – the Internet tells me it could be a bacterial/fungal bloom which shouldn’t really be that much of an issue. That it should just sort itself out.

So I’m not worrying too much just yet.

Edit: if you look at my post history you can see the piece of wood in question

My driftwood had this for the first week or so after being put in the tank. It resolves itself (or at least mine did) after a couple weeks 🙂

  3. It’s normal and harmless biofilm that always grows on new wood put into tank. It’ll go away with time. Snails, shrimp, and even some kinds of fish eat it, but you don’t need to add things to the tank specifically to eat it.

  4. New tank goops, globs, blobs, whisps, and jellies are normal. They go away after a while.

  5. Normal, expected, and harmless biofilm. . Will go away on its own after a few weeks. Snails, shrimp, and other clean up crews will eat it if you have them. Don’t bother trying to clean it off. It will come back.
