Hi! I got my first betta today. He’s in a five gal, heated, planted, hides provided etc, and I just put him in his tank. I apologize for the bad photo lol.
I noticed him glass surfing and tried to put up some paper, but it didnt rlly help
I also got him (recommended by the fish shop owner guy) some flakes and he just spits them out even when crushed/small
Does he just not like them?

try using black paper, it worked for me!
I second the black paper! It really helped mine when I first moved him into his new tank. Sometimes they just need time to adjust. Don’t panic yet. Try the paper and give him a few days to see if he settles 🙂
If he otherwise seems healthy, you could have a picky eater. He may also still be adjusting and not wanting the food yet. If you are wanting to try another food option, my fish goes crazy for the fluval bug bites betta formula.

My betta didn’t eat the first few days I got him. When he finally showed interest in food the pellets were too big. I ended up trying the bug bites small pellets and he started eating those. Now he swims to the top when I get the bottle out.
Give it time to adjust since you just got it Today, every fish or in your case a Betta has their own “personality” , some are timid and likes to hide for a while some are confident that they swim out and about in the tank after a few minutes or hours of adjustment. As for the food, you can try again much later or tomorrow, no rush in feeding them. As for the name, maybe bluey? 😂 Azul or Azulo lol
