My brother and I regularly try to fish this area of creek down the road from us in Gulf Coast Alabama. This little hole is upside down T Shape, about 30ft at its widest and 80 ft at its longest with a 10 ft gap down the middle. Its regularly about 4 to 6 feet deep. It passes through a drainage ditch under a dirt road and empties out into a small pond with brush forming a dam before trickling into a marsh. On sunny days we can see the bottom pretty well. I KNOW there are fish in here. Theres evidence of other anglers as well. I started to think otherwise however I saw a large Bowfin Catfish (I believe) one day, and weve been back maybe 8 times since, getting skunked for several hours each time. We have thrown the entire tacklebox at it, trying chicken, cheese, bread, cornbait, a mix of those; texas rigged worms of various varieties, small jighead lures, large crawfish lures, lizards, yomamotos and zooms. I hate for this to be a what would you throw post, but we have tried everything. Im hoping someone here has been in a similar spot and could advise us on what finally worked for them. My brother has a disability so id really like for this to be worthwhile for him, as its a task in itself to get him here.

  1. i reckon you should find somewhere with more fish. especially if your brother is disabled, you better be making it worthwhile.

I, too, am in Mobile. If y’all are limited to land based fishing, it’s pretty tough around here. I also pretty much exclusively fly fish so I’m of little help for your specific scenario, but I do wish you good luck. Depending on how close y’all are to the beach, a very good beginner saltwater fish are kingfish (locally called whiting). That’s if you’re just eager to catch something. Shoot me a message if you think I can help you in any way. I’m by no means an expert, but I try to do what I can when I can.

  3. I’d just find a new spot to fish. If the fish aren’t biting, despite trying everything, what else can you do?
