I decided to set some tip ups on the pond behind my dad's place baited with chicken liver. I have never targeted them on the ice, but man, it was fun. They were very active and I was running back and forth for 2 hours chasing flags.

Yep! Good friend of mine gets them here in Minnesota, far west of metro area. They are fun to catch, once you have em dialed.
Ball up some red worms on a treble hook and suspend them a foot or two underneath the ice.
Sounds crazy but that’s how we catch both flathead and channel cats through the ice.
channel cats are tasty

Yes, with rod and reel though. Find them suspended by the 100s in a local lake, small spoons and waxworms work best for me, they fight hard and will sometimes about rip the rod right out of your hand when they bite. Need a reel with a good drag for sure
Edit: not sure why they take on the darker color here, these are channel cats, they go back to their lighter colors in the Spring
