Like am I tweaking or is this actually a real fish and a real size, like how wouldn't the like snap, how wouldn't the rod just get pulled out of that guys hands? Please help.

  1. Yeah, it’s Goliath grouper. I’ve caught a few almost that size. You used huge rods and reels with fishing line thicker than weed eater string.

  2. Real fish for sure, not sure if this photo is real, but those are real fish and get that large. We human often target and catch very large fish, upwards of 1000 pounds. Halibut, rays, tuna, grouper, some catfish, and a handful of other fish get this big. Ocean sunfish get even bigger I think.

    As others have said, Goliath Grouper. Have never caught a big one but caught quite a few little ones around Tampa Bay. 

    The big ones will sometimes post up under piers. You can watch videos of people breaking big rods  pulling them in off the Skyway Pier in St Pete. 

  4. As far as how do you fight a fish that is larger than you. The rod and reel are designed to deal with those forces. Rods flex and reels have drag so that the line can be pulled rather than the holder. You use the boat to your advantage as well. You can land a fish 5-10 times the size of a person on the right equipment.
