Anyone ever use one of these? Is there a reason they’re not mainstream?

I thought this was AI at first, but apparently there are a couple “brands” that make these. Seems super impractical.

  2. These are pretty niche, they’re designed for speed jigging.

Below is a product description pulled from evike.com Jigging Master UnderHead Reels

“A traditional spinner reel being “under the rod” provides a balanced rod that is natural to gravity, but the inherited design flaw of a spinner lacks the torque a conventional reel has with the line “spinning in”. A conventional reel provides the ultimate torque, but the reel need to be maintained above the rod by the angler, against gravity, while a fraction of the attention is also needed to sort your lines while fighting a fish”

It’s for vertical jigging. Best of both worlds if you’re doing it a ton- torque of a conventional but the balance and ergos of a spinner.

Why is this a spinning, casting reel? I think I love it but I need convincing and don’t understand how to stop it but think i do, maybe. Probably? No…

It’s not for casting, obviously. I see that it’s a jigging reel, but it would be impractical for much else. Maybe trolling…

  6. jigging master underhand conventional jigging reel. Good company held in fairly high regard. Made solely for speed jigging big offshore game fish. No casting, just drop and reel.
