I’ve got a 55L (14.5 gallon) tank for my betta. I’ve never once caught him resting in the 3 months I’ve owned him.
Water parameters are solid, temperature is stable, low water flow. No issues with him like clamped fins or gasping that would suggest he’s stressed or has health problems.
I know different personalities in bettas can result in some being more chilled out than others, but the guy is always patrolling around the tank.
I read somewhere that if the tank is too open they won’t be relaxed enough to rest – does it look too open? Any suggestions / experiences are welcome

Extra info:
0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates
7.8ph
435 TDS (stable)
Weekly 10% water change
Tank is 3 months old, got the fish in 1 week into cycling
Tank mates: 50ish ramshorn snails and 20ish cherry shrimp. He chases the cherry shrimp occasionally but doesn’t hunt them endlessly.
Feed him 7/8 betta biogold pellets daily, he gets 3x bloodworms every Tuesday as a treat instead.
All I ever see about keeping bettas is that they are excellent jumpers and can survive out of the water for relatively long periods of time, and therefore a lid is highly recommended. The last one I had, I’d put him in his cup he was in at the store while I did a water change (with the lid set on top of the cup but not fully in place), and saw movement in my periphery; he’d jumped and knocked the lid off and was laying on the shelf next to the cup. If yours hasn’t done anything like that, you’re probably good, but I might at least put a screen top on the tank for my own sanity.
