I have an old fly fishing rod (5wt) that was broken during a move. It was given to me when I started fishing by an old man who has since passed. Question, is there a proper way to just snip the end and go with the next eye or is that even advisable ? Also. Some of the eye wires are loosening up, is there a way to remove them and replace old? Am I barking up the wrong tree for DIY or should I find a reputable business that can repair this for me. I like to think im pretty capable, hoping to save this gift as it has some sentimental value but I want to be able to use it. Tia

So yes, you can cut the old thread off and re-wrap the guides with new thread and then use an epoxy to re-cover them. Youtube will give you a lot of videos on how to wrap guides.
On the tip issue though, you are kind of SOL. You could feasibly add another tip-top to it but the action would probably be significantly different depending on how much of the rod is broken off. I’ve replaced a tip top that broke off at the end of the tip top so it only lost a 1/4 inch or so of the rod tip and it works fine but if it’s more like 3 or 4 inches then it’s going to be too big for any tip top to fit on it and it won’t load properly.
This is probably a candidate for wall hanging at this point.
