A family member has a tank of guppies and there used to be 2 small bristle-noses, some snails, and 6 male guppies. After some time they decided to buy females and the aquarium they got them from had them quarantined for about a week. To prevent any fry from being eaten, the bristle-noses got removed. About 20 females were added to the tank the next day (they were purchased on the day in question too) but since the addition of the females all of the males died within two days, and 1-2 females have died each day. A couple of the females were pregnant as well when they were purchased (which wasn’t known at the time). The water was tested and apparently came back as being healthy.

The family member added all in one treatment to the tank a few days ago hence the greenish-blue colour but they don’t know why they’re all dying. The water weed is being removed soon because some guppies have been caught in it.

The side question is does the female on the left of the tank in the second photo appear to be pregnant, or is it just larger than the others?

That’s a huge amount of fish to add to a tank in one go.

Would you happen to know the water parameters?

I can only add to the prev comment to say I imagine the ammonia etc went through the roof and hence poisoned the fish. Have you done any water testing? 😢

  3. That’s way too many fish at once, the ammonia spiked and the fitration couldn’t keep up. Also, do you have a plan once the guppies have too many fry for the tank to hold? They multiply crazy fast

The plant won’t be a problem assuming it’s a real plant. fish like having places to hide, they probably aren’t stuck, just hiding.
