Hey everybody, I am new to this sub Reddit and I was looking to just receive some advice or possibly recommendations for what’s to come. I recently just bought a fish tank and I’m super new to this hobby. The idea originally was to create an aquatic landscape with live plants for a beta fish, maybe a school of some tiny fish and possibly some shrimp as well or one of those eel looking creatures. To be honest, I think my plants are dying and would love to just get some recommendations on how to help with that and also what animals I should put in the tank.
Thanks 🙂

Welcome to the life you’ll love and hate
the tank looks so nice!! for the plants, keep in mind theres something called new tank ugly. biofilm will grow and plants melt and brown and thats alright as long as you keep all your parameters in check with aqi teting kit and a good root tab or fertilizer can help (i use aquarium co op fert its so good). i noticed you have the topfin heater and filter and i use the same for my short term qt but idk i feel like you should keep in mind some brands dont do well long term especially topfin. i dont mean to scare you though mb.
shrimp are AMAZING and dont take up much bioload and so do snails but i prefer shrimp imo especially amane shrimp. if by eel looking things you mean loaches and specifically kuhli loaches GET THEM!! theyre so adorable and watching them takes up most of my time. i cant theyre little mustaches 🙁 and betta are pretty territorial (depending on their temperment though) so keep in mind you might not be able to keep a lot with them. but it also depends on how many gallons your tank is and whats safe and healthy for more than just shrimp.
dont be afraid to ask questions and explore through this sub reddit, youll learn a lot. people can be mean but dont take it to heart. its an amazing hobby and youre off to a great start with your amazing tank.
Since you have a 10 gallon, the loaches might be pushing your bioload capacity after the betta and small school. Honestly even the small school with a betta might be tough. Gotta try for the smallest around like CPD or chili Rasbora. But depending on the betta they may not kike the bright colours of the boras. You’re probably gonna wanna look for a female betta as they tend to be smaller and less aggressive but again this always depends on this individual fish. Shrimp though, no problems whatsoever. Amano do great, are big enough to not get bothered by most fish and won’t reproduce in freshwater. Clean the tank like no ones business too.
