I have two Okuma Voyager Signature Surf rods. These are 4 piece rods. There is about a half inch gap in between rod sections when they are joined together. Even with some power behind it this is as tight of a connection I can get. They do not join flush with each other.

Anyone else familiar with this model? Is this normal?

Seems like a weak point in the rod to me.

Thanks

This is normal. I dont own the okumas but a lot of my other 2 piece rods do this and ive never had them break at the ferrule.

  2. This is normal. 99% of rods dont go flush. Don’t force it. You can mess up female side. Thats what she said.

  3. It’s normal. It’s called a spigot ferrule or spigot joint. There should be a gap like in your picture.

In my experience spigot ferrules are much better than tip-over-butt ferrules. Typically spigot ferrules were on higher end rods but the technology is being pushed down to more budget friendly rods now.

Completely normal thing, its made so the connection has a longer lifespan without being worn down.
