thank you for being my no. #1 cutest, brightest, and cheekiest little fish I’ve ever seen; you deserved your new retirement 10gal aquarium, not me.

and big thanks to you!; kind/helpful fishkeepers out there who offered healthy advice AND criticism. Without it my betta wouldn’t have been so lucky.

ako’s journey:

June 2025 – 1gal plastic “fish tank”

bought it off of a flea market stranger for $5, without doing proper research, I assumed it was fit for keeping a betta.

July 2025 – 4gal vertical terrarium

r/bettafish thought otherwise, and so I dug up an old lizard aquarium my family had, tore it apart and resealed it with silicone, and introduced my betta to it.

August 2025 – 5.5gal damaged glofish tank

felt my betta deserved more, (and she did) and luckily my family was moving our overpopulating guppies to a new 29gal at the time: and so the pink-siliconed tank with chips/scratches all over was handed down to me

new years 2026 – b.new 10gal rimless aquarium

finally convinced my parents to let me buy a discounted imagitarium 10 gallon rimless tank with my own money; ditched the fake decor and plants in replace for real/natural ones to create a much less artificial aquascape.

epilogue ig:

ako and her new tankmates will now reside atop my windowsill/desktop now; where it’ll grow naturally with the use of real sunlight and other means.

thanks for thugging it out, ako

sorry for keeping you up playing bocchi the rock songs late at night

_Please don’t do what I did, having a journey like this may seem satisfying and rewarding, but not for the fish. Starting off in a sub >5 gallon aquarium, especially if its for a betta or any other fish in that matter, shouldn’t be and never is recommended. Make sure that you do both proper research for your fish AND tank size/dimensions before even purchasing anything living from a store._
