Currently the wall supports my 20 gallon long but I want to upgrade to just a 40 long. I don’t know anything about wall structures, what do you think? Thanks for your time.

Probably, but depends entirely on how it’s built. What I do like seeing is that there’s one solid piece of wood it will be sitting on spreading out the weight a bit.

If you are refering to two 20gal longs sure.
Otherwise I think 40gal tanks are around 15inches deep and that surface doesn’t look that wide. If you add something that is wider than the 40gal then yes its possible, but I wouldn’t without something with a wider base than a 5-7inch wide wall for support.
Can it support the weight? Yes
Can it support it and evenly distribute the weight? Doubtfull

I think yes, but honestly, you hear so many stories of new homes built with corners being cut, you should investigate a little before putting a big tank there. Climb in there and really throw your weight around. If it feels solid, the tank will be fine.

Its a fucking wall, dude. Of course it will hold it. And if it won’t, how in the hell are people on reddit suppose to know how the wall structure was built on the inside other than generalized info you can Google?
Your biggest issue will be if it actually fits. In which case….get a tape measure and measure it.

If its brick or block yes, if its a stud frame with plasterboard definitely not.

Why not make a wooden frame that hugs that cutout and put the tank on top of that? Then paint frame similar to wall color? That would be the safest bet.
