I'm going ice fishing for the first time this weekend in Eastern Massachusetts. I saw some folks ice fishing this pond on fishbrain and talk of safe ice. My concern is that it's very shallow – so I worry about oxygen levels and fish activity.

Any advice on if it's worth trying to fish this pond? My instinct tells me to target the edges of the vegetation on the western side and target a contour between the 4.5 to 6 ft drops.

Any other general advice is very welcome. I have no shelter or sonar- only hopes, dreams and a buddy I roped into this.

thanks in advance

  1. The ice is thick enough everywhere in Massachusetts aside from some rivers

If you’re in eastern mass I strongly recommend you go over to Walden pond in concord. I filled the bag on trout in a couple hours when we had that big snow storm a couple weekends ago

That being said some of the smallest and most shallow ponds and Massachusetts to have some crazy big bass. We use to fish a rainwater runoff behind a warehouse that had some of the biggest bass I’ve seen

I’ve never seen that pond pictured so I couldn’t tell you if it’s good fishing, but it’s hit or miss around here
