I really love Bettas, all varieties, male and female, theyre all fascinating. But I can’t cope with the frequency of loss of longfinned varieties. So I have a tiny baby double-tailed Plakat I bought today. But he’s so small and so timid! I picked him because he was the most responsive of the cup-prisoners in the shop, but he seems terrified of everything in his Betta-designed tank here. I guess I need to be patient. He’s really beautiful, I just hope I can give him a good life.

He seems happier now I’ve turned off the room lights as well as the tank lights. It’s weird, he was so feisty in his “cup of penance”. Anyway, he’s really beautiful and I want to give him a lovely life. He’s not eaten yet, I’ll try again tomorrow.
I love my long finned delta but I do think he’s my last long fin. I hate seeing him get tired and I’m worried about when he gets older 😭
I love my veil tails! They’ve lived the longest of all my betta’s. I keep them in 5.5 gallon tanks with lots and lots of resting spots of plants of various sizes. My Moses, a Dumbo, Halfmoon struggled tremendously with the incredible finnage. I will not have another one. I eventually lowered his water and had enough plants so that he basically only needed to glide onto the next. But he was extremely happy all the time!!
The cup was his kingdom. Couple of days and he’ll claim this tank as his empire.
I don’t mean to this person but… am I crazy or is this tank absolutely filthy? Can I ask what your
maintenance routine is (gravel vacuum/siphon, how often youre changing the water, any “cleaning” tank mates like snails or shrimp, a filter)?? What are your water parameters?
I only ask because that could be a significant factor in the issues you’ve had with your bettas dying.
