I bought two cherry shrimp three or four days ago, and I put them in with my beta in a 10 gallon tank. The first day the shrimp were out and about, and my beta didn’t seem to care about them at all. She wasn’t aggressive. But after that, they seem to have disappeared and I can’t find them anywhere. I’ve been looking for two days now and don’t see them. Is it normal for them to hide at first? I don’t think she ate them because I didn’t see any of the remains and she’s super small.

She ate them or they are hiding. Trust me my betta literally grabbed my Neocardinia, and somehow consumed it by riding it up to the water and gulping it WHOLE. Shrimp are usually a no-go for any betta.

Mine hide a lot too. I see them occasionally. Try testing your ammonia. If it’s too high, it stresses the shrimp out causing them to hide more. I’m currently cycling a new tank for my shrimp so they can feel more confident to come out without a betta. I’ve heard shrimp tanks are pretty low maintenance so maybe you’ll want to separate if you want to see them more often

  3. Have you checked the filter ? Sometimes they get sucked up. Mine also hide very well on the underneath of the floaters

Any shrimp i put in the tank i treat as gig economy workers, meaning when theyre done with their cleaning gig they become food.

I breed them in a separate tank thats kinda just left to accumulate algae so they self sustain

  5. Just wanna say with 2 shrimp and not much coverage in your tank your shrimp wont feel very safe. Id reccomend getting some anubis you attach to rock they can hide in or some moss like java moss. Also woth 2 you might never get a breeding colony going. Its reccomended you have one male for every 3 or so females cause the male(s) can stress the females out during mating
