Hello. I have a center console skiff and I fish near the shore and in an island 6 miles away from shore. I don’t go out more than 10 miles offshore direction.
My boat is pristine, has a 2025 100hp Suzuki, SIMRAD ploter, vhf and I take all precautions.
I want to get an emergency communication system.
Would you recommend:
Garmin messenger inreach
Garmin in reach mini
EPIRB
PLB
Please be so kind to advise. Thanks !!

PLB would be the most straightforward and versatile I believe. The InReach require subscriptions and are only really valuable if you want to have two-way communication with someone on shore. EPIRB is reliable but is essentially tied to your vessel, not your person. If you’re fishing solo and fall overboard that EPIRB will do you no good. PLB is similar to EPIRB but instead of being registered to a vessel it’s carried on your person. Secure it to your PFD (you are wearing a PFD, right?) and you’re good to go if you find yourself in distress on or off your boat.Â
