I will preface this by saying everything's fine! And also, that I am an idiot.
I, like so many idiots before me, had my fishtank and accoutrements plugged into a power strip laying on the floor. It's beneath my kitchen bar in the apartment, where I keep my 5gal and a couple of plants. I knew about drip loops and had one situated for my heater, but I (an idiot) thought, surely it'll be fine. 🤡
I watered the larger plant, which has a drip tray beneath it, but it overflowed and didn't notice as I was puttering around the kitchen. And then I heard crackling!
After a few seconds of panic, the power strip was safely unplugged and replaced with basically this pictured setup for three different cords (heater, pump, and light). DO NOT NEGLECT THE DRIP LOOPS, no matter how careful you think you are!
First picture is an example of a drip loop, in case you are unsure. Second picture is me.
