Got some red root floaters and I also found some small pink stem plants (i don’t remember what they’re called) and knew they belonged in my tank. Got an anubias with a suction cup to make a betta hammock. Added another java fern. I have a couple more anubias to add but I haven’t figured out where to put them yet – probably somewhere on the big driftwood.

I probably won’t put the lights on this bright when I get my betta, unless I have fuller coverage of RRFs. They REALLY like lights. I might be interested in otherwise darkening the water for the little guy, but I have to look into that.

Anyone have any ideas for foreground stuff (not necessarily plants – I’m partial to stones but not sure where to get them, all the ones I saw at the store were ugly and too big lol. Are there any easy/medium (I don’t have CO2) foreground plants I can look out for?

I can’t wait to see life in this tank (other than plants). Almost there! 🐠

  1. Curious on the easy foreground plants too because i decimated my dwarf hairgrass lmao. If you wanted to darken the eater but keep the top light intense you could add some tannins to the tank. I like the catappa betta tea bags (there’s a bunch of brands) because you can just remove the bag when the waters dark enough to your liking.

Beautiful! As for stones, is there anywhere locally you can collect pebbles and stones? Make sure they’re natural not manmade, clean them thoroughly and they’ll be exactly what you like! I used to have a tank with pebbles from my favourite beach as the foreground.

I love your tank! So pretty. I have bought stones from Amazon–tons of options. I think either of these would look good:

  4. Crypts here and there are a neat addition to foregrounds imo! Other than crypts, i just add some leaf litter for the fish to go through and other botanicals and that’s it lol
