Okay so I bought a new 10 gallon tank last night for Mr. Fire (whose old tank is so dirty I can't find him unless he swims up to the front of the tank). I think set it up correctly but I'm going out of town tonight until Sunday.
I saw you're supposed to wait like 3-6 weeks for a new tank to cycle, but what do I do in the meantime? His old water looks disgusting but he seems fine???
Do I move him over on Sunday night when I get back? Is he okay in that green water?
I changed out about 2 of the 3 gallons of water in the old tank a few days ago. Just want to make sure he's okay and not sure what to do with him in the meantime until the new tank is ready 😩

Do a 50% water change using dechlorinator. Don’t feed the fish until you get back. you have a lot of algae because you have too many nutrients in the water and too much light.
In the new tank Please get some live plants in there and make sure you do frequent water changes. Or this will happen again. You need to keep nutrient levels balanced. Plants help will do this without you having to do too much work.
Did you put any additives in the water like quick start to help neutralize the levels inside? And is the water very cold? You’d want the water temperature to be the same as the current tank (like 77 for a betta) since they’re tropical fish.
If you have a water test kit I’d test the levels in the old tank as well as the new. PetSmart can do it for you if you don’t have strips or are in a pinch. They’ll do it for free. Hate supporting them, but that water really needs testing.
I would use Stability, add him to the new tank and get a vacation feeder
😱 I would identify and fix the issue in the existing tank whilst fish less cycling the new tank. Without an established nitrogen cycle he’ll be in different trouble in the new tank.
Have you ever tested the water parameters?
I would not keep him in that water at all and start over with a fish in cycle after purchasing the correct filter and heater and water conditioner. your new tank is not going to be ready before you add your fish as it won’t be cycled yet but honestly probably anything is better than the swamp water. you truly cannot know or assume he’s okay in there.
fish in cycles require daily water changes and water conditioning until your parameters are safe and stable.
