Betta Fish: new baby

Just wanted to share my first betta & tank in almost 20 years. Definitely the best setup I’ve had, prior to this I’d only kept fish as a kid and I definitely wasn’t old or wise enough to do it properly. I’m also totally new to plants and just scaping in general (as you can see I pissed off the vallisneria by moving it and must have been too rough lol), but I’m proud of my effort. It’s been cycled a long time but I finally found a betta I was drawn to. His name is Ghrian (Irish for sun) 🙂

If anyone has any insight on what “type” (for lack of a better term) he is I’d appreciate it. I just assumed plakat, but that’s one thing I’m fairly out of the loop on. Last time I had a betta all we could get was the normal veil tails, and there was no specific colour types or anything like that.

I was also wondering if I can feed him D. melanogaster flightless fruit flies as a treat (I breed them for my dart frogs). If anyone has any info on that I’d appreciate it!

Also his fin was snagged prior to me getting him- it seems to be filling in though.
