Trying to get back into fishing again! Been going a few weekends now in a row and wanting to plan some weekend trips up in Mammoth Lakes Area

Photo of Lake George Pictured 🙂

I got a gift card for Christmas and have a Dicks Sporting Goods coupon for $20 off $100 bucks spent

Based in Southern California so I am for local inland lakes that are stocked or Santa Ana Lakes but there’s zero shade + I prefer natural spots

Currently rocking same reels – 1500 Shimano Siennas

8’0” Ultra Light Berkeley Lighting Rod 1/32-1/4

Line 2-6lbs

&

7’0” Ugly Stik, Ultra Light, 2-6lb line both just lined with Monofilament

Mainly Trout fishing but like to try bass/catfishing

Just trying to see what items you guys would recommend.

Thank you!

  1. You pretty much have all you need to fish local ponds/streams in SoCal, but adding a ML rod for bass fishing would give you more versatility. The Shakespeare Micro Series 7′ ML is a steal for only $25 at Walmart.

IMO, $80-$100 isn’t enough these days to get another decent full rod/reel combo unless you are getting crazy good clearance deals or buying used.

I threw a Shimano FX 4000 and a Shakespeare Medium Light Rod for everything bass related for 3 years and all I have to say about that cheap, ghetto setup is that it still comes along and gets used almost every time I’m on the water. Thankful my circumstances improved and it’s not the only thing I have anymore, but my goodness it wore out some bass when I had nothing else. All for a grand total of about $40
