Kremer (my mother’s betta) was dealing with very severe fin rot, along with what appeared to be a secondary fungal infection. His fins were clamped, and deteriorating daily, with no time for healing and regrowth. The top photo was taken about three weeks ago when I began treatment.

I’m really happy to report visible fin regrowth and a big overall improvement. His fins are slowly filling back in, his colour has deepened, and he’s much more active and eager at feeding time. (Bottom photo)

Treatment included Seachem Paraguard and Kanaplex, StressGuard for support, methylene blue early on, occasional Epsom salt baths, and probiotic food to help support his immune system. He’s been kept in a monitored hospital tank with close attention to water quality throughout recovery.

Today, he’s finally moved back into a fully cycled 5-gallon with tannins, and I’m continuing a low dose of Paraguard for now as a precaution.

Really proud of how far he’s come – hoping for continued regrowth from here. He’s been such a resilient little guy.

  1. Hi there! I have a plan to make a video on betta fish diseases, and was wondering if I could use your images from this post?

I’d like to use them as examples of fin rot and recovery (this video isn’t planned to be recorded for another few weeks so I can research more about treatments for other diseases). I completely understand if you would rather I not use your photos though, I will credit you in the video if I can use them! Thank you so much for your time!

This recovery is insane!!! in the best way hehe absolute gold standard care from start to finish. The difference between those photos is night and day. His colour, fin regrowth, and energy say everything. You gave him the time, treatment, and patience he needed, and it shows. Kremer is one tough little dude, and you’re an incredible fish parent 🙂
