Hey everyone,
I’ve been thinking for a while about getting off the bank and fishing from the water. I live near a fairly calm but trout-rich river, and a SUP seemed like a relatively affordable and fun way to try it out.
Up to now I’ve always fished from shore, so I don’t really have experience with what to watch out for when fishing from a board. The plan would be mostly throwing streamers and switching to dries if fish start rising.
Does anyone here have experience fly fishing from a SUP? I’d really appreciate hearing how practical it is and anything you wish you had known before starting.
Thanks

I fished the Caribbean from a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) specifically to stay safe from crocodiles. It’s definitely feasible; I managed to catch Permit, Tarpon, and Snook right from the board. While I still prefer wading, if your board is large enough and you have a solid sense of balance, double hauling with a 10-weight rod is entirely possible. Just a tip: either build or buy an anchor—it’s an absolute game-changer for staying on the fish.
