Hello everyone. This is Fishy, and was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice on how to keep a betta in a 5 gal tank happy, especially since I’ve read short finned bettas are more active? This is his starter tank since we just adopted him, but do plan on going bigger at some point! He has a heater, filter, snail, and a moss ball. He has a skull hide and some seashells to rest near the surface of the water. TYIA!!

5 Gal, Yes, about a month of owning the fish, change the water 1 time a week about a quarter of the tank water, with dechlorinator to new water, a rabbit snail, feed every other day just a pinch of flake food or a blood worm, some fake plants, silk plants and some hides!

  2. How exciting!!! Make sure you do research about the nitrogen cycle! Theres lots of info on this sub about how to do a fish-in cycle safely with a brand new tank. Happy fish keeping, such a gorgeous fish!

I feed my betta a teensy bit of food (2 pellets) twice a day and he’s happy as a clam. recommend real plants if possible as it will make tank cycling easier. make sure to test the water for ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels! If nitrite or ammonia is high change 10-30% of the water with fresh, treated, tap water. Having a tank filter with a biological filter is critical for tank cycling, as the filter would house beneficial bacteria, and make sure to never rinse the filter under tap water. I would look up how to cycle a tank with a fish in it. Good luck!! Your betta is adorable

Beautiful betta! If you can get some live plants for the tank that would be very nice!

I had a 3d printed floating betta hammock that my fish really loved. You can get them on amazon for about $7-10. He even started to learn to eat directly from the tweezers in the hammock.
