Elminster loves his log, especially when there's a lot going on outside the tank and he needs a place to settle down. Im worried it could be shredding his fins though. as you can see in the pic of him flaring, theyre pretty ragged. theyre currently the longest theyve ever been but definitely still rough around the edges. everything else in the tank is live plants, and the only hardscape is polished quartz crystals without rough surfaces.

I've also noticed he gets especially cranky during his fast days and has little "tantrums" , and thats usually when i notice new tears or scrapes on him. and its ONLY on Saturdays (fast days) when he acts like this

I would try to sand it down — I’ve noticed there are some sharp edges on the floating logs, more so on the inside

  2. Love his name.

Biggest issue I had was it not fitting when I switched from a plastc hood with incandescent bulbs to a flat glass lid with leds.

Mine was peeling too but it was old, second hand from a relative. I’m not sure if peeling is common or not with them. I think she scrubbed it with a wire dish brush to get algae off.
