Found this tank on the side of the road!! Tested for leaks and now cycling.Win!!!

Wanting to set it up for a betta and possibly some kuhli loaches or corydoras (I’m going to add more sand I realised as I filled it with water it wasnt enough sand😂)

What would you add to make it more betta friendly? I have a betta hammock on the way too.

If I were to keep cherry shrimp in here what would you say the chances are of success is?

  1. Just thought I’d add that I wasn’t sure on the wood in case some pieces were sharp so that’s why I’ve wrapped the moss around the wood, is this suffice?

  2. Yes this looks great! I recommend floater plants (unless you already have some and I’m blind) so the tank isn’t so bright for a betta.

I introduced my cherry shrimp and snails first and let my plants grow in a bit before adding a betta. They have plenty of hiding places so I’ve never had an issue. But honestly it just depends on the betta. There’s always the chance mine will wake up one day and decide to turn on them, but as of now he mostly leaves them alone

a lid or some other covering for the top of the tank, in your case a net would make the most sense, Bettas jump, more of a when than if, best if they do not end up on the floor

7%, you don’t know what the betta you get will be like and Cherry Shrimp are not the easiest critters to keep alive even besides that, go for some snails instead

    >and possibly some kuhli loaches or corydoras

no, do not keep any fish with a Betta, they’re solitary, territorial and usually agressive, Khuli Loaches need big groups and big tanks, so do Corys, if you want either get another tank and keep the Betta alone, plus this tank looks to be around 7-10 gallons so it wouldn’t be able to handle the bioload of a school of fish anyway, again, just get some snails if you want tankmates

Some floating plants to block some light as bettas enjoy dimmer less light intense habitats.
Also some broader leaf plants like a dwarf lilly or anubia barteria as bettas enjoy natural beds/hammocks they can sleep on

  5. Before getting a male and forcing it to be an incell. Depression loner that sits down and just gives up within a week mayb four.

Mayb think about female beta you can throw a bunch together and watch them like a mini pack of dogs. Ive had 4 for a year one got sick i wished her well for at $4 a fish i thought ill just replace her. Should i just freeze her now? But i didn’t and now shes fine. The longest fish bcos a Round belly female betta looks like a male shes so round.

Female betta were $4 now theyre $6 so i think its catching on. Females are more fun.

  6. Yes, shrimp in first with plenty of cover so betta doesn’t dine on them. Nicely done. Nice find!

finally someone who knows what they are doing!! i saw someone say about floating plants, you can also use capatta/ indian almond leaves and place them at the waterline as bettas loveee to rest on them and it can also be used as shading to make the tank darker anddd they also add tannins too
