That’s the fishing pole he wants. This is what I assume we need…

Tackle box

Hooks

Lures

Knowing what kind of fish we want to catch.

Fishing license

What else do we need? How do I choose the hooks? The lure? How do you know what fish are present in the body of water you’re fishing at?

Any YouTube channel recs for learning how to cast and how to remove the hook from fish?

He really wants to go and I would love to let him experience it. Thanks in advance.

Skip almost everything other than the fishing license/the rod and reel. All you need is a bobber, a little bitty hook, a split shot weight, and a can of worms to catch fish all day long with that thing.

Oh, and needle nose pliers. Bring those. Better to be able to get the hook out safely than scar the poor child for life ripping a hook out.

A quick google search will tell you everything you need to know about the body of water you are trying to fish. If you are fishing with a worm as the other comments suggest, it won’t make much of a difference, you will catch whatever is hungry.

If he really wants that rod it’s hard to say no but the Zebco dock demon and ugly stick dock runners have replaceable reels and better guides. if he happens to smash that one the whole rods trash. The Shakespeare hide a hook bobbers are great for teaching kids how to cast without worrying about them hooking You, their self, or anything else near them.
