I have this 6’9 ML abu garcia veritas, but snapped the tip so first eyelet or 2 at the top. It casts a little more to the right than i would like, but seems fine otherwise. Not very sensitive though. So would this be like a medium heavy or medium moderate now? It bends more in the center of the blank at this point.

  1. As you’ve noticed, it’s changed the action. If that’s fine with you, it’s still good to go. I’d change the top ring out with a replacement top though, just so you don’t have any issues with the line catching the broken bits of the rod.

I would at least re-tip it. I don’t think regular guides are designed to withstand the forces applied when setting a hook.

  3. It’ll still “work” but it will feel different, as you’ve noticed. The reason it’s casting to the right is the rod is now shorter and stiffer than you’re used to, so you will have to adjust your casting technique accordingly. If you are casting with your right hand, making a side-arm cast, and it’s landing consistently to the right of target then that means you need to release the line a little bit later in your casting swing

You can get a rod tip repair kit for less than $10 on amazon. That’s the simplest fix if you’re not happy with it as is currently.

  5. My friend uses a rod with no tip. Makes me cringe every time I see it. I bought a kit off Amazon for fixing rods I just never bring it on the boat
