Honest question…
If an app could tell you ‘Today is a B+ fishing day’ based on conditions, would you trust it? 🤔🎣
I built one (BiteGrade) and I’m curious how skeptical or interested people would be.
Free trial if anyone wants to poke holes in it 😆

I could be, in theory..
It’s perfectly possible to make an app like this.
But the simple reality is that doing is of similar difficulty as predicting the weather.
You gotta consider what the location is like, freshwater, ocean, ocean current, seasons, species and so on.
Then you gotta consider what the weather has been like for the past few days, temperatures above water as well as in the water.
Because a hot day following a bunch of cold days, is a strong indication of good bite.
While a hot day in a week where every day is equally hot, is likely to result in very poor bite. And then maybe you’re looking for the cold or cloudy day and that’s when the fish will be the most active.
You should also be considering potential hatches and migrations.
And how deep areas of a lake will behave differently from shallow areas in the same lake. As well as how deep lakes will behave differently from shallow ones. And small differently from large.
So the simple reality is that I’m very optimistic about the prospect of an app such as this.
And in fact, I know software such as this already exists for professional fishermen and it works pretty well.
But I really doubt it’s going to be something developed by just some random guy, for something like this to be good, it has to be accurate.
As I said, it’s a bit like predicting the weather, possible, but very difficult.
And a well executed app wouldn’t just pretend to tell me whether the bite is good or bad, but also where the bite is likely to be. A message such as “In this lake, today, the bite it likely to be good in the deeper portions, let the lure sink at least 30 ft before you start reeling in, that’s where the trout/bass/perch are likely to be active today..”.
And all of these things are things I think about for every single fishing trip, so it’s far from impossible to do it, I do it all the time. But making an app that does it automatically? I don’t believe anything like that will be available for a while yet.
Personally no, I enjoy just finding a spot and fishing it, I don’t feel the need to use an app. I can check tides, currents, wind, and water levels quickly if need be with a few clicks without having to download an app. I’d be very skeptical of the accuracy as well, with how many different species and areas people fish it’d be extremely difficult to accurately state how the fishing will be for each location.
