This is a rando picture I pulled off of Google but I do fish a lot of ponds and lakes with this or something very similar in it. Whatever it is, it grows from the bottom up and usually stops 1-2 feet below the surface.
If I’m on the bank, seems like a weedless senko is about the only thing I can pull through it.
If I’m on the boat, I’ve had some luck with a Ned rig and a sideways TRD dropping right on top of it. Basically a 3” wacky rig with a Ned head.
Just curious if anyone else fishes this junk and how you approach it, or how theoretically you would approach it even if you haven’t messed with this stuff before.

I have a spot that’s full of this & it’s pretty shallow. I really just have luck with Texas rigged worm or a wacky rig if I don’t let it drop too much. Caught one on a whopper flopper once too lol

I fish stuff like this at my local pond daily. I have success with Texas rigged zoom trick worms, swim jigs, and occasionally chatter baits

My favorite way to fish a pond like that is with a weightless/weedless TRD worm on an EWG hook. That rig has caught me dozens of bass, crappie, and a ton of aggressive bluegill hybrids in a couple of ponds near me. Oh, and a pike. A weightless/weedless rigged tube also works.
Swimjig, the dirty jigs are nice. Strike king bitsy bug will do it too.

Texas rigged swimming worm like a strike king cut-r worm. 1/8-1/4oz worm weight pegged to a flipping hook.
Weightless Texas rigged deps sakamata shad. Or really lightweight (1/8oz) rooster tails or small Chatterbaits. Swim jigs work really well too but I normally use weightless plastics when I fish water like this.
Spinnerbait would be my go to in the spring. Keep it just under the surface. Even some of those pockets all it takes is a little one foot section of your retrieve to get crushed. Might be a pain if you dont have the equipment to get him out of that stuff though
