My bait fish I usually buy the day before fishing keep dying on me. Is this too much oxygen? I have an aerator running all the time and the water is cold.

I use natural well water(not city water), keep it VERY cold, aerator and a pinch a of Fish Krack. Bait holds for several days. Maybe your bucket is leeching something into the water? Was the bucket used for anything else prior to being a bait bucket? https://a.co/d/0j7XQTqa link for fish krack

I’ve never heard of over oxenagating with a portable bait bucket.
IMO use lake water or get de-clorinating drops used in aquariums & make sure the water is the same temp as the water you are getting them from.
Best I can give you here 🙂

Dead bait works fine.

the airator probably isn’t working well enough

I have a feeling this has something to do with the bucket itself. Was this a new bucket only used for bait. It is worth it to spend 5$ on a new one. If it contained chemicals or mixed concrete it could be causing issues.

Take a bunch of water from where you’re getting the shiners. No shock.. keep the bucket aerated and cold, they should last for weeks!! No food.
