Has anyone read up on or has actually use the QuickDrift system for fast swapping rigs? I’m intrigued by it, but I think I need to know more. It seems like it would require setting up quite a few different leaders, tippets and fly combos. I do keep a good number of different size leaders in my list pack, but I’ve never tried having them pre loaded. I sort of enjoy (sometimes) the time on the water changing flies, though on the other hand, the thought of being able to cut down that time and fish more seems appealing. Also, this is not a product plug, I simply asking the group for insight.

  1. What’s the point? The trees are just gonna eat my flies anyway.

At least hand tying new ones on wastes some time and probably saves me money.

I’ve used pre set up rigs before. Heck my dry box has a leaf specifically for this. I’ll say I use them sparingly. The idea of having rigs set to go is great, but I’ve found the functionality of it isn’t as helpful. If you leave the rigs set for too long I’ve found they will develop a memory that needs to be worked out. Also river conditions. Sometimes your rigs will be simply too short or too long.

I have a few set favorite rigs for specific areas I fish very frequently. Rigs I know work, and will work in that waters depth and speed. These are usually for when my current rig is so spent it’s falling apart and it’s a fast swap.
