So I have had this female angel for a while and she has never laid eggs. There has never been a male present and it's her first time ever laying. However I find it strange that she is laying eggs during parasite treatment. She has camallanus worms and the tank is medicated with expel-p. Is the meds causing her to lay eggs? Is it stress related? This is her 2nd week of treatment and I can noticeably see much more worms falling out. (Good sign) if anyone knows what's going on pls lmk!

I mean this only conjecture and not coming from experience at all, but it’s possible she’s been holding onto them or not forming them because of stress from the parasites, and the treatment has alleviated that stress in some way.

  2. I would take this as a sign she is feeling healthy. Nothing more nothing less. A healthy angel fish will do this very often. I had a pair in a community tank that would lay eggs like it was their job at least once or twice a week. I wasn’t trying to breed though so the eggs would get eaten every night by the other fish after they were laid.

She is probably just sensing clean water because of your treatment and taking the opportunity to lay eggs in good conditions whether there is a mate or not.

  3. Seems like the meds are working then. Otherwise she wouldn’t be spending energy on this. If you’re doing heavy water changes for the meds, than can also encourage breeding (heavy rains and changing seasons in the wild).

If you are medicating you are also probably doing large water changes

Large water changes will trigger egg laying and spawning in many fish especially ones from the Amazon basin like angel fish and also Cory catfish

They spawn in the wild during the start of the rainy season when water levels are high which provides better cover for the hound fry and an abundance of freshwater plankton and insects for food

Do you also have snails in the tank? I had what looked like nerite snail eggs on a leaf and my angelfish got all territorial and gradually pecked them all off until the leaf was clean again!
