I actually have two kittens, should I be concerned about them sitting on my tank? I bought a 10mm acrylic to go over the top but not sure if it’s too much weight

  1. Maybe they’ll be fine as a kitten but I’d start shooing them away because they’ll keep doing it when they get bigger. A stool or tall cat tree next to it may work

  2. Don’t encourage it, but I’ve had tanks with a wooden lid/cover that they can sit on. That way they get a tall seat but everything is protected.

  3. Electric light goes in the water, cat goes in the water. Your cat. *“Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies. . .”*

I’d suggest putting a scat mat on top of the lid. This helped tremendously with keeping my furry assholes off the counters.

ETA: kitten looks like a Maine Coon? If so, I am sure you’re aware they can weigh almost double what a standard cat does. One of mine is an MC and he is an absolute unit. Oh also, if you do a scat mat, make sure to secure everything somehow or show kitty that it’s there. They will hit it and spaz the F out because it’s unexpected.

  5. Look at that little fella’s hubris. I personally would not encourage the habit. A little sheet tin foil up top may help.

  6. Their feet is what they use to bury their shit.

They don’t wash their paws after.

Then you put your hands there. For me? That’s a yuck.

And speaking as a 50 year cat keeper, if you let them on that piece of furniture, what piece of furniture will they reckon they’re not allowed on? You shouldn’t live in a house run by your cats.

  7. I’ve seen a number of fish keepers on YouTube noting that they let their cats sit on aquariums, thinking it was fine, but lids eventually break, tanks break, messes happen, and fish die.

I suggest a spray bottle of water with a pretty strong stream to make the kitties feel unwelcome on top of your aquariums.

  8. I keep my cats off of mine just in case. had one of my cats jump on it and fall in before. at the time, he was very fat though.

  9. Looks like the perfect corner for a cat tree right there, maybe try finding them a perch to go next to the tank instead? Can’t imagine this is good for the tank long term but should be okay for now

  10. Is your cat fine? Yeah. Is your tank going to continue to be fine? Personally, I wouldn’t risk it
