I don’t plan to purchase one, but I’m always curious about new competitors in the reel market. This is Westin’s attempt to make a spinning reel. Retails for around $200.

I like that it seem to incorporate seals, a metal body as well as a one piece screw in handle. I do not like the ludicrous amount of grease in this reel. Both the spool shaft and both sided of the handle are LOADED with tacky grease.

It definitely seems superior to the first generation Savage Gear reels, but Daiwa, Shimano, Okuma, Penn and Quantum all feel better out of the box than this one. Still, time will tell if this performs well.

What do you guys think about the new Westin spinning reels?

Also, kudos on a generous warranty and a good shimming instruction.
